Conservative Achievements since 2010

1) There are almost four million more people with a job since 2010.

There are almost 33 million people in work in the UK, up by almost 4 million since 2010, and the employment rate is estimated at 74.5%, 4.3% higher than in 2010.

2) Putting £900 back in the pockets of the average worker through the biggest cut to National Insurance in modern history

Since 2010 the Conservatives have nearly doubled the personal allowance, from £6,475 in 2010-11 to £12,570, meaning people can earn more tax-free money a month. We have now delivered a double cut to National Insurance for 29 million people, worth £900 a year to the average worker on £35,400 as we continue to make progress on our long-term ambition to end the double tax on work.

3) Ending low pay by delivering a record increase in the National Living Wage (NLW)

The Conservatives introduced the NLW and have increased it every year. In 2024 the NLW increased to £11.44 an hour, boosting the pay of two million people by £1,800 a year. We have also delivered landmark reforms to ensure it always pays to work than be on benefits.

4) Giving people security in retirement

The Triple Lock has helped lift 250,000 pensioners out of poverty since it was introduced, by protecting it we are increasing the State Pension by £900 this year, giving people security in retirement

5) Putting over 20,000 extra police officers on our streets and more than halving crime since 2010.

We have exceeded our target by recruiting over 20,000 more police officers, keeping our communities safe. This has helped us ensure crime is down 55% since 2010.

6) Driving up education standards, making England one of the top-performing countries for education worldwide.

Since 2010, schools rated good or outstanding across England have risen to 90%, up from 68% under Labour, and primary school children in England are now rated the best readers in the western world (PISA). In 2010 England's secondary schools were ranked 27th for maths, 25th for reading and 16th for science. Now England has risen to 11th for maths, 13th for reading and science.

7) Recruiting a record number of doctors and nurses backed by the first ever Long-Term Workforce Plan, helping to cut waiting lists and deliver the care people deserve.

Since 2010, the Conservatives have recruited 45,511 more doctors and 75,263 more nurses, while the first ever NHS Long-Term Workforce Plan will ensure we train the workforce we need to deliver world class care to patients for years to come.

8) Taking tough action to tackle illegal immigration, putting the British people in control of who comes to the UK.

Boat crossings are down by 36%, despite a rise across Europe and we are speeding up asylum processing, with enforced returns up 65% compared to 2022. On top of this, the Conservatives are pressing ahead with their deterrence plan to stop the boats.

9) Backing our Armed Forces and growing defence spending to 2.5% of GDP

As the UK responds to a more dangerous world, our new long-term ambition is to invest 2.5% of GDP by 2030 in defence, up from the previous commitment of 2%, maintaining the UK's world leading position in NATO. We are also leading the build of the world's most advanced nuclear submarines and the next generation of fighter jets.

10) Becoming the first major economy to halve emissions while growing the economy.

From 1990 to 2022 the UK has halved emissions while growing the economy by 80% and the UK is the first major economy to do so. The Conservatives have also cut emissions faster than any other G7 country by delivering practical and pragmatic steps to reach net zero that does not increase costs for families.
