On Tuesday 21st May, Macmillan Gynae-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist, Leah De Leon, who works at the West Middlesex University Hospital, part of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, attended an ‘Inspiring Women’ reception at No 10 Downing Street. The event was to celebrate women like Leah, from across the UK, who work hard to contribute to their local communities. Leah has made a huge difference to the cancer journey for West Middlesex Hospital gynaecology patients through diagnosis, treatment and beyond. She was invited by Laura Blumenthal, Conservative Prospective Parliamentary and Candidate for Brentford and Isleworth, after Laura attended a meeting at the hospital looking at its work on women’s health.
The event saw a speech by the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Rt Hon. Laura Trott MP, who welcomed the women and recognised their contributions. The reception was a small thank you to acknowledge the hard work of the women and inspiration to their local communities.
Leah De Leon, Macmillan Gynae-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist at West Middlesex University Hospital, said:
“It was a special experience to visit No 10 and meet great women from all over the UK. I was honoured to represent the hospital and all my colleagues who do great work for the local community. Downing Street is full of history but a highlight was definitely seeing Larry the cat.”
Laura Blumenthal, Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Brentford and Isleworth, said:
“I have been impressed by West Middlesex Hospital’s excellent performance in women’s healthcare. When I heard about the No 10 event I knew I had to approach the hospital to nominate a colleague. Leah was the perfect representative for all the excellent staff at the hospital. She’s done a huge amount to support women going through cancer and it was great to see her recognised at No 10.”
Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Rt Hon. Laura Trott MP, said:
“It was wonderful to meet so many brilliant and inspiring women from across the country at Downing Street this week. Leah De Leon is a real champion for women’s healthcare, and it was a pleasure and honour to celebrate their vital work alongside Laura Blumenthal.”
