Laura attended the public meeting held by the Brentford Muslim Centre (BMC) at Watermans Park at 40a High Street, Brentford. This is because after five months they were being evicted by the landlord as the lessee had broken their contract by sub-letting to the Brentford Muslim Centre.
This means that the BMC was misled. They have already invested £50,000 in the centre and become a lifeline for young people and families in the local area. Attendees spoke movingly about how valuable the Centre is to them and how it had affected their lives, including women who were in the UK entirely alone.
Laura made points about how the safety of the building needed to be confirmed after the landlord raised issues about it and whether the BMC was looking into financial compensation as they have been asked to leave by 15th July.
There is action to take to try to keep the BMC in the space and Laura will update soon on her actions to support this soon.
