Laura had a positive discussion with the Chairman of the Hounslow Parent Carer Forum. The group supports parents and carers of children with additional needs, up to the age of 25.
Two main themes came out of the conversation. The first being the need to plan longer term for the education of SEND children in the UK. This covered provision of quality education in the local area but also the quality of SEN statements and the support children would be offered.
The second is employment opportunities for young SEND adults. The local area is rich with a range of jobs and companies need to be supported and encouraged to employ more young people with special needs.
Laura was grateful for the time spent informing her of the experiences and views of local parent carers of children with special needs.
